We are seeking a Software Development Engineer (SDE) to join our People eXperience and Technology (PXT) Central Science Team. This interdisciplinary team combines the talents of science and engineering to develop and deliver solutions that measurably improve the lives, wellbeing, and value of work for Amazonians.

In This Role, You Will

• Build distributed, scalable, and highly available systems that make Machine Learning (ML), Large Language Models (LLMs), and statistical models run faster in a CI/CD fashion
• Own products ranging from Data Lakes to tools for science experimentation, MLOps, GenAIOps, and analytics to web applications and software solutions integrated with other Amazon systems
• Leverage intricate distributed systems, handle and present Big Data, and apply advanced statistical methods
• Collaborate with economists, academic scholars, machine learning experts, and fellow developers to craft, experiment, and launch services embodying diverse scientific models
  
  

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Robust software engineering fundamentals and adeptness in system architecture
• Strong grasp of machine learning principles, including model training, validation, debugging tools, and analysis techniques
• Familiarity with Machine Learning lifecycle management and enhancing LLM responses through methodologies like Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and Prompt Engineering
• Exposure to ML system design, frameworks, GenAI application design/development, and industry best practices
• Passion for innovation, leading-edge technology, and contributing to a high-impact field
  
  

This position can be located in Bellevue, Seattle, or Sunnyvale.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
