Senior Director of Planning & Heavy Maintenance Overview:

The Senior Director of Planning & Heavy Maintenance is responsible for all long- and short-term forecasting for airframe and landing gear maintenance. Coordinating with stakeholders to execute engine and external customer maintenance demands while maximizing fleet utilization and production capacity is a key deliverable. This role is accountable for ensuring compliance with respect to assigned work and regulatory requirements in all aspects of planned or unplanned maintenance: line, hangar, heavy, overhaul. The Senior Director of Planning is responsible for creating and maintaining a culture of safety, compliance, and profitability.

Essential roles and responsibilities of the Senior Director of Planning & Heavy Maintenance:

  • Plan and assign work as due / requested in all phases of aircraft utilization
  • Line, Hangar, Heavy, Overhaul
  • Monitor upcoming work packages and ensure assignment in line with allocations available
  • Measure fleet / gear utilization to maximize time between maintenance intervals
  • Prevent unplanned or time-driven out of schedule events through a robust and achievable plan
  • Control and monitor daily system wide maintenance operation through assigned work
  • Trend execution to plan (attainment / adherence) to ensure revisions needed are incorporated
  • Act as project management office for airline related to aircraft acquisition and retirement
  • Identify and analyze maintenance problems and implement appropriate corrective actions
  • Participate in selection of contract agencies for aircraft, engine, and component maintenance
  • Monitor maintenance and cost performance of vendor maintenance
  • Develop long-term and strategic maintenance planning - including participation in aircraft procurement decisions, facility planning, resource requirements, and maintenance budget forecasting
  • Forecast and establishment of aircraft maintenance check schedules
  • Oversee maintenance planning and Line workload scheduling
  • Assist in the selection of contract agencies for outside engineering and MRO maintenance
  • Manage RFP Process for maintenance functions when appropriate
  • Review and provide input to aircraft leases
  • Conduct all tasks in a safe and efficient manner complying with all local, state, Federal safety and health regulatory requirements, programmatic standards, and with any internal policies and procedures identified by Sun Country Airlines
  • Any other duties assigned by management

Supervisory responsibility: Manager Planning & Manager of Aircraft Acquisitions

The qualifications we are looking for in the Senior Director of Planning & Heavy Maintenance:

  • Ten or more years of experience in large transport aircraft planning
  • Three to Five years of supervisory experience within a maintenance organization in planning
  • A&P License
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbal and written
  • Strong management and people skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize and organize effectively
  • Need keen attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • Self-driven with a strong sense of urgency, demonstrates initiative and adapt to changing priorities

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
