This role provides strategic, dynamic and innovative leadership to the BCBS system and BCBSA Generative AI (GenAI) initiatives. The role requires strategic thinking, business acumen and leadership skills to drive the definition, development and application of AI/ML technologies to use cases that advance BCBS Plan competitive differentiation and drive business process transformation for BCBSA. Collaborating with BCBSA business owners, BCBS Plans, and key strategic technical and business partners, the Program Director defines the strategic roadmap and execution strategy to operationalize business use cases leveraging AI/ML technologies.

Primary Job Functions

  • Strategize and Lead: Develop a vision and strategic roadmap for generative AI programs that align with the BCBS system and BCBSA vision and goals. Identify key areas for innovation and set priorities for proofs of concepts and required research.

  • Innovate and Implement: Collaborate with key stakeholders to define business use cases that leverage AI/ML technologies, including generative AI, ensuring they meet quality and risk management standards, as well as ethical guidelines. Collaborate with technical partners to lead the design and development of requirements for leveraging BCBS system data assets in support of proofs of concept and production applications. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, privacy and information security experts and program management to provide business leadership to ensure program success. Collaborate with data governance professionals and other GenAI experts to propose required training content for BCBSA employees to enhance GenAI skills and knowledge.

  • Manage and Scale the BCBS GenAI Innovation Ecosystem: Manage BCBSA’s GenAI program for BCBSA employees and BCBS Plans, creating an ecosystem of connected technologists and business owners across the BCBS system. Responsible for ensuring engaging content and activities within the ecosystem platform, responding to user inquiries and evolving the ecosystem over time to ensure ongoing user engagement. Collaborate with BCBSA program management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and with positive ROI.

  • Research and Stay Informed: Stay informed on the latest advancements in AI and machine learning in healthcare and adjacent industries, incorporating innovative techniques into program development and advising on the evolution of federal AI policies. Support partnerships with key industry organizations as guided by BCBSA policy and advocacy, governance and leadership. Identify high-impact use cases for the healthcare sector.

  • Communicate and Advocate: Support collaboration with key strategic partners in quantifying and articulating the value and potential of GenAI to BCBSA governance committees, BCBSA leadership and key stakeholders.

Education, Experience and Certification

Education

Required: Bachelors Degree

Preferred: Masters/Advanced degree in Health Information Technology, Healthcare Policy, or related fields.

Experience

Required: 8 years experience working in the health care space
